At the beginning of this year, it was announced that Pfizer would no longer invest in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research. It has been founded the company ended up wasting billions on-field treatments.
In fact, 99% of the Alzheimer’s drug trials failed in the last 15 years. The drugs ended up giving a lot of those suffering with dementia false hope.
With dementia on the rise, this is poor timing to halt research and will lead to 300 researchers being laid off. But maybe it will give an opportunity to have research done that is actually productive and beneficial to those with dementia. The Alzheimer’s drug by Pfizer has shown no promise of it being successful.
It is time that more research needs to be done to do something about the increase it dementia, but since the drugs we’re leading to a dead end, it is a good thing that Pfizer is bowing out
