Recently, the Phoenix Business Journal posted a great article that dives into the rise of dementia across the state of Arizona.
Dementia is hitting Arizona hard, with it being the state with the second highest growth rate of dementia throughout the country. Out of the 5.7 million Americans with dementia, 140,000 of those are Arizona residents. And dementia is only expected to rise by an astonishing 43% in the next seven years.
This also impacts the finances and healthcare of Arizona, with the cost of caring for those with dementia also increasing. This is not good considering caregivers are already spending countless hours of unpaid care including physical, emotional, and financial support.
We are not sure why this is happening. We know Arizona is known for a large population of seniors. But at least this should give you a reason to start doing things preserve your brain health as you age.
